Table II.35: ρ-Cymene (ii.1311-1315-1621146-148)

ρ-cymene is a monoterpene compound primarily found in the essential oils of turmeric leaf. The rhizome contains some ρ-cymene, and it's thought to give turmeric spice some of its bitter taste.

ρ-cymene is also present in other herbs and spices such as bay leaf, bergamot, cinnamon, coriander, creosote bush, cumin, damiana, dill, eucalyptus, fennel, frankincense, hops, horehound, juniper berries, labdanum, longleaf pine, mace, magnolia flower, marigold, marjoram, nutmeg, oregano, rosemary, summer and winter savory, and thyme. Fruits and vegetables such as carrots, lime, and oranges also contain ρ-cymene. Research shows that these antioxidant fruits and herbs could help relieve stress, thinning hair, acne, wrinkles, and cellulite.

However, it should be noted that cymene may induce convulsions.
